Sadly the unprovoked aggressive attacks by Russia on Ukraine is still ongoing. We are in such an awe of the efforts of the Ukranian defense forces to push back the Russian forces and the will of the Ukranian people to fight to keep their sovereignty. The need for humanitarian relief is constant and please consider to help out if you have the opportunity (see links below).

Mastering Query Tuning
with Brent Ozar
You need to speed up an existing app, and you’re allowed to change both queries & indexes, but you can’t throw hardware at it. Let’s tackle it together in a fast-paced 1-day version of my full 3-day class, and because we can’t cover everything, attendees get a year’s access to the full 3-day recorded class too.
The DBA in a hybrid environment
with Jess Pomfret Rob Sewell
The role of a DBA is evolving in today's hybrid computing landscape, where applications are deployed on both on-premises and cloud platforms. This training day is specifically designed for DBAs who are required to work in a hybrid environment, where some applications use Platform as a Service databases while others are supported on-premises or on Azure VMs.
We will provide you with a hands-on experience in using automation tooling including PowerShell and community-developed modules such as dbatools, dbachecks, and ImportExcel, to automate many everyday tasks in your estate, whether it is totally on-prem, hybrid, or 100% cloud. You will learn from Jess Pomfret and Rob Sewell, two of the dbatools in a Month of Lunches authors, how to take your Data Platform skills to the next level.
We will also cover the basic concept of infrastructure as code. You will learn how to manage your infrastructure through code, allowing you to automate the provisioning, configuration, and management of your SQL Server instances and PaaS services. You will also see how this approach can improve the reliability and consistency of your environment, reduce errors, and increase the efficiency of your operations.
Finally, we will touch on how you can use GitHub Actions or Azure Functions to automate your workflows and integrate with other tools in your environment. You will learn how to create workflows that trigger when specific events occur, such as a new pull request or a database schema change and automate the execution of scripts or the deployment of changes to your SQL Server instances. This approach will help you streamline your operations, reduce manual intervention, and improve the overall quality of your work.
Overall, this training day will provide you with a comprehensive set of skills to manage your hybrid SQL Server estate. There are many tools for you to add to your toolbox and we’ll show you how to get the most out of your available time and effort by utilising PowerShell, a collection of community-written modules with some CI\CD tools mixed in.
Whether you are a senior or junior DBA, a developer who interacts with SQL Server, an accidental DBA, or someone with DevOps in your job title, this training is for you. You will improve your PowerShell skills for SQL Server and reduce the time you and your team spend administering SQL Server. You do not need any specific equipment or tools for this training, but we recommend bringing something to take notes with. All scripts and slides will be provided to you, and you will have the opportunity to follow along with most of the demos on a machine that can run Docker or with PowerShell v5 or above and a SQL Server 2012 or above instance.
Join us for a wonderful day of PowerShell and SQL, full of demos and useful solutions that you will be able to take back to your workplace.
Using Microsoft Fabric to become an analytics superhero!
with Mark Pryce-Maher Stijn Wynants
Are you ready to become an analytics superhero?
Hesitate no more! Microsoft Fabric is out and building analytics solution cannot get any easier! If you believe that the best way to learn is to learn by example, join us!
We will build a new greenfield analytical solution using the new all-in-one Microsoft Fabric that covers everything from data movement to data science, Real-Time Analytics, and business intelligence. You will enjoy a highly integrated, end-to-end, and easy-to-use product that is designed to simplify your analytics needs.
We will start off the day with an overview of Microsoft Fabric, set up the environment and explain the scenario for the day.
There is no use of analytics solution if there is no data. So we will show how data is stored in Fabric, how you can integrate existing data, or ingest data from different sources. Here we will create landing zone and integrate existing data without making another copy!
Once data is in Microsoft Fabric OneLake, we will process it efficiently while demonstrating best practices. Data engineers are used to Spark so it will be our tool of choice in creating different layers while tackling all the things you need to know. During this part, you will learn how to incrementally load data and make sure your cleansing is done right and in an effective and dynamic way! Rest assured, SQL folks are not forgotten! We will show how you can access the same data using SQL!
Of course, there is no use of loading data without a serving layer for your business needs. We will show you how you can use Lakehouse & Warehouse in Microsoft Fabric focusing on performance!
Finally, we will show you how to build Power BI reports using new consumption method reading data directly from the lake, called DirectLake, skipping data engines.
If you do not know where to start, don’t worry, during this day we will explain every step on the way and how Fabric helps you get the job done. Also, we will share the best practices seen at most customers!
After this day you will have a clear understanding of how Fabric works and what components you have to use for you own top notch analytical solution!
Fabric is brand new, so instead of throwing terminology here, we are inviting you to join us and become the analytics superhero!
